There is a very particular kind of outfit required for “I’m only popping to M&S for picky bits.” It needs to be comfortable enough for a quick food run, presentable enough for the inevitable chance encounter, and easy enough that it doesn’t look like you’ve spent forty minutes getting dressed to buy mini sausage rolls.
The starting point for this look is the cotton striped top. Stripes always make an everyday outfit feel a little more pulled together, and this one has that useful balance of being casual without looking scruffy. It works especially well with the black wide-leg jeans, which give the outfit a cleaner, more modern shape than a basic pair of leggings or joggers.
The wide-leg cut is doing a lot of the work here. It keeps the whole outfit comfortable and easy to move in, but still gives it enough structure to feel properly dressed. That is exactly the kind of piece I like for everyday plus size outfits: something that feels effortless but still looks intentional.
Over the top, the black bodywarmer adds another layer without making the outfit feel bulky. The quilted finish gives it a bit of texture, while the warm brown trim works beautifully with the accessories. It is also practical enough for those days when you are in and out of the car, walking across a supermarket car park, or adding “just one more shop” onto what was supposed to be a five-minute errand.
For shoes, the pale Puma sneakers keep the outfit casual and comfortable while lifting the darker colours slightly. They also stop the outfit from looking too serious, which is important when the overall brief is very much “food shop, but make it fashion.”
The ALDO striped bag pulls the whole look together. The stripe echoes the top without making everything feel too matchy, while the tan detailing ties back in with the bodywarmer. It is the kind of accessory that makes a simple outfit look more considered without needing much effort.
Then there are the Tommy Hilfiger earrings, which add a small bit of polish. They are subtle enough for daytime, but they stop the outfit from feeling too plain and give it that little finished touch.
This is one of those looks that works well beyond an M&S run too. It would be just as good for a coffee stop, lunch with a friend, a school run, weekend errands or any of those days where you want to be comfortable but still feel like you have made an effort.
And crucially, it still works when you come home carrying three dips, two cheeses, olives, mini desserts and at least one thing you absolutely did not go in for.
