Wear This When the Office Is Starting to Feel Chilly

Plus size brunette woman wearing a burgundy knitted jumper dress, black tights, black ankle boots and a crossbody bag outside an office building, alongside a collage of the individual outfit pieces.

As an Amazon Associate I earn from qualifying purchases.

There comes a point every autumn when getting dressed for work becomes a bit of a guessing game. It’s chilly on the way in, someone in the office insists the heating isn’t needed yet, and you’re seriously considering keeping a blanket under your desk. This is exactly when a cosy knitted dress starts earning its place in your wardrobe.

The starting point for this outfit is the burgundy knitted jumper dress from Yours Clothing. It’s a gorgeous autumn colour without being too bright for the office, and the relaxed fit makes it an easy option for those mornings when you really can’t face squeezing into tailored trousers.

Even better, the dress is available up to a UK size 28, making it a lovely option for plus size women who want something comfortable without sacrificing style. The longer knitted shape works beautifully with tights and boots, giving you a complete outfit without having to think too hard about putting separate pieces together.

Underneath, I’ve added a pair of black tights, available up to 4XL. Finding tights in genuinely inclusive sizing can be frustrating, particularly when you want something suitable for everyday wear rather than a special occasion. These are a useful addition to an autumn wardrobe, helping you get more wear out of your dresses as the temperatures start dropping.

The black ankle boots give the whole outfit a slightly smarter finish. Their simple shape and block heel work nicely with the relaxed knitwear, creating that balance between comfortable and office appropriate. They’re also versatile enough to wear with jeans, trousers and other dresses throughout autumn and winter.

For the bag, I’ve chosen a black Herschel crossbody. It’s practical, understated and doesn’t compete with the rich burgundy of the dress. The casual design also stops the outfit from feeling too formal, which is ideal for workplaces where the dress code is more smart casual than corporate.

And finally, the little silver bow earrings add a pretty finishing touch. I particularly like these against the burgundy knit. They’re delicate enough for everyday wear but still add a bit of personality without making the outfit feel overdone.

What I like about this combination is how easily it fits into everyday life. It works for a relaxed office, a day of meetings, a coffee stop on your lunch break or even heading straight out for a casual dinner after work.

There’s also something rather satisfying about an outfit that looks like you’ve made a proper effort when, in reality, you’ve put on a knitted dress, tights and boots and you’re practically ready to leave.

Of course, not every office has the same dress code, but for somewhere that allows a little personality and relaxed styling, this is a great way to make your autumn workwear feel a bit more comfortable.

And if you’re still sitting next to the colleague who insists on having the window open in October? At least you’ve got the knitwear sorted.

Wear This When You’re Off for a Pub Lunch

Plus size pub lunch outfit UK: a pink and chocolate brown striped cardigan, light blue wide leg jeans, brown chunky heeled ankle boots, a slouchy brown shoulder bag and chunky gold earrings.

As an Amazon Associate I earn from qualifying purchases.

There’s something lovely about a pub lunch with friends. Good food, a proper catch-up, and absolutely no rush to get home. You want an outfit that feels comfortable enough for a Sunday roast but still looks like you’ve made a little effort. This combination of chocolate brown, soft pink and relaxed denim ticks all the boxes.

Pink and Chocolate Brown: A Lovely Little Combination

Pink and chocolate brown might not be the first colours you’d think to put together, but they work beautifully. The brown adds warmth and richness, while the pink keeps everything feeling soft and feminine.

The star of this outfit is the pink and chocolate brown striped cardigan from Yours Clothing, available up to a UK size 28.

I particularly like the collar and button front design. It’s the sort of cardigan you can wear as a top in its own right, without having to worry about finding something else to layer underneath.

Wide Leg Jeans for a Relaxed Fit

A good pair of jeans makes getting dressed so much easier, and these light blue wide leg jeans from Yours Clothing work particularly well with the cardigan.

They’re available up to a UK size 32 and also come in indigo if you prefer a darker denim.

The wider leg gives the outfit a relaxed silhouette, balancing the cosy knitwear without making everything feel too casual. They’re also the sort of jeans you could easily wear with trainers for a completely different look.

A Little Height Without Going Overboard

I’ve chosen these brown chunky heeled ankle boots to give the outfit a slightly dressier finish.

The chunky heel and substantial sole add a bit of attitude, while the brown colour ties in beautifully with the cardigan.

They’re a lovely alternative to trainers when you want to feel a little more dressed up. As always, choose footwear that feels comfortable for however much walking you’ve got planned.

The Finishing Touches

A slouchy chocolate brown shoulder bag keeps everything coordinated without looking overly matched. Its relaxed shape suits the casual feel of the outfit.

Then there are the chunky gold earrings. I love how a simple pair of statement earrings can make jeans and a cardigan feel like a properly thought out outfit.

The gold also adds a little warmth against the pink and brown.

An Outfit That Works Beyond the Pub

What I particularly like about this combination is that it doesn’t feel restricted to one occasion.

It would work just as well for a coffee date, an afternoon shopping with friends, a casual birthday lunch or even a relaxed family get together.

And if the pub lunch turns into another drink and a few more hours of gossip? You’re already dressed for it.

An Outfit For A Proper Autumn Walk

Plus size autumn walk outfit UK: a black striped hoodie, black joggers, Under Armour trainers, a black crossbody bag, pink smartwatch, pink earbuds and a pink water bottle.

As an Amazon Associate I earn from qualifying purchases.

There is something about a proper autumn walk that requires a very specific outfit. You want to be warm without feeling bundled up, comfortable enough to actually walk somewhere, and still cute enough that stopping for coffee afterwards does not require an emergency outfit change.

The starting point for this look is the black striped hoodie. I like that the white stripes give an otherwise simple black hoodie a bit more personality, because an all-black comfortable outfit can very quickly wander into “I have given up for the day” territory. It goes up to a size 28, which makes it a useful option if you want something relaxed and oversized rather than fitted.

I’ve paired it with the black joggers, from Yours Clothing and available up to a size 36, because this is not the occasion for jeans digging into your waist halfway around the park. The relaxed shape keeps the whole thing comfortable and practical, while sticking to black keeps it looking pulled together.

For shoes, the Under Armour trainers are exactly the sort of thing I would choose for this. They keep the monochrome look going, the white sole ties back to the stripes on the hoodie, and most importantly, they actually make sense when you are planning to do more than walk from the car to the café.

Then come the useful bits.

The black crossbody bag gives you somewhere to put your phone, keys and all the other assorted nonsense we apparently need to leave the house with. It is practical without competing with the outfit, which is exactly what I wanted here.

I’ve added a pink smartwatch, pink earbuds and a pink water bottle to break up all that black. They are small details, but together they make the outfit feel a bit more fun and intentional. Plus, earbuds are essential if your idea of a relaxing walk involves listening to a podcast and pretending nobody else exists.

This is exactly the sort of plus size outfit I like for those crisp autumn days when you want to get outside without dressing like you are attempting Everest. Comfortable, practical, easy to wear, but still cute enough that if the walk somehow ends with cake, you are appropriately dressed for that too.

Wear This When the Dog’s Taking You for a Walk

Plus size dog walking outfit UK: a woman walking a golden retriever in a navy heart sweatshirt, light blue jeans, a long navy padded coat, white trainers, a blue cap and a blue bum bag, with the products shown on a cream panel.

As an Amazon Associate I earn from qualifying purchases.

There is a very specific balance required for a dog walking outfit. It needs to be comfortable enough for a proper walk, practical enough for leads, treats and muddy paws, but still nice enough that you don’t feel like you’ve completely surrendered to an old hoodie and whatever trainers were nearest the door.

The starting point for this look is the navy heart sweatshirt from Yours Clothing. It has enough detail to make it feel a bit more fun than a plain sweatshirt, but it is still easy enough to throw on and go. The darker colour also makes sense for dog walking, because this is not really the occasion for anything too precious.

It works really well with the light blue Yours jeans, which go up to a size 32. The slight flare gives them a bit more shape than a standard straight leg without going full seventies bell-bottom. They keep the outfit casual but still make it feel like you have actually put a look together rather than just grabbed the first thing in the wardrobe.

Over the top, the long navy coat adds warmth without changing the relaxed feel of the outfit. It goes up to 5XL, which is particularly useful for layering because coats can very quickly become uncomfortable once you add a sweatshirt underneath. The longer length is also ideal for colder dog walks when standing around waiting for someone to finish sniffing the same patch of grass for five solid minutes.

The white trainers are wide fit, which makes them a much more practical choice for walking. They keep the whole outfit looking fresh and sporty without feeling too heavy, and they work nicely against the darker navy pieces.

Then there is the bum bag, which is probably the most practical part of the whole outfit. It comes with an extender, making it much more plus size friendly, and it gives you somewhere to put your phone, keys, dog treats and all the little bits you do not want to carry in your hands while also trying to manage a lead.

The blue cap finishes everything off nicely. It adds another casual layer, works with the navy colour palette and is also useful on those mornings when doing anything meaningful with your hair is very much not happening.

This is one of those outfits that is built around real life. It is warm, comfortable and easy to move in, but still feels pulled together enough for grabbing a coffee afterwards, popping into the shops, or accidentally turning a twenty minute dog walk into an hour because the dog had other plans.

Wear This When You Want Comfortable Workwear That Still Looks Put Together

Plus size workwear outfit UK: a woman wearing a cream and chocolate brown striped cardigan, wide leg brown trousers, neutral platform trainers and a brown satchel, with the products and a Stanley cup shown on a cream panel.

As an Amazon Associate I earn from qualifying purchases.

Some work outfits look great at 8am and have you desperate to change by lunchtime. This one is very much the opposite. It’s soft, relaxed and comfortable enough for a full day at your desk, but the colours and shapes still make it look properly put together rather than like you’ve accidentally wandered into work in your loungewear.

The starting point is this striped cardigan from Yours Clothing. I really like the cream and chocolate brown together because it gives you something a bit more interesting than a plain office cardigan without making the outfit difficult to style. The button-through shape also means you can wear it as a top like this, or layer it over something underneath when it gets colder.

I’ve paired it with the matching-toned wide-leg trousers, also from Yours Clothing. Both pieces go up to around a 30–32, which is exactly the sort of sizing I want to see more of when I’m putting these outfits together. The wide leg keeps everything relaxed, while the darker brown makes them feel smart enough for work.

Then I’ve deliberately kept the shoes casual. These neutral platform trainers stop the outfit feeling too formal and are much more realistic for a day when you might be commuting, walking between meetings or simply don’t fancy spending eight hours in uncomfortable shoes.

The brown satchel is what pulls the whole thing back towards workwear for me. It has that practical, slightly structured look without feeling corporate, and the warm brown works really nicely with the rest of the outfit.

And yes, I’ve included the less glamorous essentials too. The plus size knickers go up to 7XL, because there is absolutely no point building a comfortable outfit and then ruining it with uncomfortable underwear.

Finally, there’s the Stanley cup. Not technically fashion, obviously, but very much part of the workday uniform when you’re trying to remember to actually drink something between emails.

The whole outfit sits in that useful middle ground: relaxed without looking scruffy, practical without being boring, and comfortable enough that you won’t be counting down the minutes until you can get changed.

Wear This When Your Inner Emo Never Really Left

Plus size emo outfit UK: a woman wearing a black and pink skull cardigan from Yours Clothing, light blue plus size wide leg jeans, a black belt, dark platform ankle boots, a pink watch and a studded black skull crossbody bag, with the products shown on a cream panel.

As an Amazon Associate I earn from qualifying purchases.

There are some style phases you grow out of, and then there are the ones that quietly hang around forever. If you ever had an emo, goth or alternative phase, there is a good chance part of it is still lurking somewhere in your wardrobe, probably waiting for an excuse to come back out.

This outfit is exactly that kind of look. It has skulls, chunky boots and a slightly darker edge, but it still feels grown-up, feminine and easy enough to wear in real life.

The starting point is the black and pink skull cardigan from Yours Clothing. The bright pink stops it feeling too heavy or costume-like, while the black background keeps that alternative feel. I also like that it is a proper statement piece without needing much styling around it. The cardigan goes up to a UK size 28 too, which makes it a much more useful option for genuinely plus size wardrobes.

I’ve paired it with light blue wide-leg jeans, also from Yours Clothing. These go up to a UK size 36, which is exactly the kind of size range I want to see more of. The lighter denim helps soften the black cardigan and keeps the outfit feeling casual rather than overly dressed up.

The shape of the jeans is important here too. They are wide through the leg without being dramatically flared, so they give the outfit a relaxed modern silhouette and work really well with the chunkier boots.

The black belt adds a little definition at the waist and helps break up the cardigan and denim. It is also plus size friendly, which matters because finding belts that actually work with a larger waist can be far more difficult than it should be.

For the shoes, the dark platform ankle boots bring the alternative side of the look back in. They have enough height and chunkiness to balance the wide-leg jeans, but they still feel wearable rather than like something you would only pull out for a night out.

Then there is the bag, which is probably the least subtle part of the outfit, in the best possible way. The black embossed skull design, studs and skull clasp lean fully into the theme, but because the rest of the outfit is quite simple, it works rather than competing with everything else.

The pink watch is the little detail that ties it all together. It echoes the pink skulls on the cardigan and stops the whole outfit becoming too black, too serious or too “trying to recreate 2007.”

This is the kind of outfit that would work for shopping, coffee, lunch, casual weekends, going to the cinema or just those days when you want to wear something with a bit more personality.

Basically, your inner emo never really left. She just discovered wide-leg jeans, better handbags and sensible daytime plans.

What To Wear To The Movies

Plus size woman at the cinema wearing a dusty pink V-neck top, blue jeans, a white belt, white trainers, silver bracelets and a white crossbody bag, with the products displayed on a cream panel.

As an Amazon Associate I earn from qualifying purchases.

Going to the cinema is one of those occasions where I absolutely refuse to suffer for an outfit. You’re going to spend the best part of two or three hours sitting in a dark room, probably with your coat bundled somewhere awkwardly beside you, so this is not the moment for anything restrictive, fussy or requiring constant adjustment. But I still want to look like I’ve actually left the house on purpose.

That is basically the brief for this outfit: comfortable enough for the film, but nice enough that you can go for food beforehand or a drink afterwards without feeling like you’ve turned up in your sofa clothes.

The soft dusty-pink top does most of the work. It’s loose without being shapeless, the V-neck keeps it flattering around the neckline, and the sleeves give it a little more interest than a basic T-shirt. It comes in sizes up to 3XL, which makes it a much more useful option for a plus size wardrobe. It’s one of those tops that makes jeans immediately feel more like an outfit.

I’ve paired it with jeans from Yours Clothing, a brand that actually understands that plus size doesn’t stop at an arbitrary size 20 or 22. For a cinema trip, I wouldn’t want anything digging into me for hours, so this is definitely a day for denim that you already know you can comfortably sit down in. Nobody wants to discover their waistband has a vendetta halfway through a two-hour film.

The white belt helps break up the pink and blue and ties in with the rest of the accessories. It’s also plus size friendly, which matters because belts are one of those accessories where inclusive sizing can still be surprisingly hit and miss.

On my feet, I’ve gone for classic white Adidas trainers. They make sense here for exactly the same reason as the rest of the outfit: we’re not making life unnecessarily difficult. They’re casual, clean-looking and ideal if dinner, shopping or a wander around town gets added to the plans.

Then there’s the white crossbody bag. I like a crossbody for the cinema because you can keep your phone, purse and everything else together without carrying something enormous around with you.

And yes, purely coincidentally, a bag is also very useful for transporting snacks purchased somewhere considerably cheaper than the cinema foyer.

Ahem.

The silver bracelets finish everything without making it feel overdressed. They’re exactly the sort of small detail that takes jeans, trainers and a loose top from “I’ve just thrown this on” to “yes, this was intentional.”

And that’s really what I want from casual outfits like this.

Plus size fashion doesn’t always need to involve clever styling tricks or clothes that are trying to transform the shape of your body. Sometimes you just need an outfit that fits, feels comfortable, looks good and works for what you’re actually doing.

This one gets you through dinner, the cinema and whatever happens afterwards.

Just remember to stop at B&M first.

Wear This When You’re Going Straight From Work to Drinks

Plus size woman walking past a lit bar in a black and taupe striped rugby-style midi dress, black faux-leather jacket, sheer black tights, black ankle boots and a black shoulder bag, with the five products displayed on a cream panel.

There are some workdays when you know you’re not going home at five-thirty. You’ve got drinks planned, dinner booked, or somebody has uttered the dangerous words “shall we just go for one?”, and suddenly your outfit needs to last from your morning coffee right through to whatever happens after work. This is exactly the sort of look I want on those days: comfortable enough to wear for hours, but smart enough that I don’t feel like I need to change before heading out.

The rugby-style dress is doing most of the work here. Rugby shirts and rugby-inspired tops are having a real moment this autumn, and this striped midi dress gives you that same trend without feeling like you’ve dressed specifically to chase one.

The shape keeps it easy and wearable, while the collar gives it enough structure to work for the office. More importantly, it looks comfortable. This isn’t an outfit you’re going to regret choosing by lunchtime because something is digging in, riding up or requiring constant adjustment.

I’ve kept the rest of the look mostly black, which makes the dress feel a little smarter without overcomplicating things.

The sheer black tights are an easy autumn addition and, together with the ankle boots, make the whole outfit feel more polished. I particularly like a block-heeled boot for this kind of day because you get a little bit of height without committing yourself to eight hours at work followed by an evening balancing on uncomfortable heels.

Then there’s the jacket.

A black faux-leather jacket instantly gives the dress a slightly sharper edge. It’s smart enough for going out after work, but it doesn’t turn the outfit into something that feels overly dressed-up during the day. The dress, tights and jacket are all from Yours Clothing too, so there’s a decent amount of genuinely plus size fashion here rather than building the whole outfit around pieces with a very limited size range.

And finally, the bag has to be practical.

For an all-day work outfit, a tiny evening bag simply isn’t going to cut it. You need room for all the things that mysteriously accumulate during a working day, but you also don’t want to head into a bar carrying something that looks like laptop luggage. This oversized black shoulder bag sits nicely between the two: roomy and useful, but still sleek enough to stay with the outfit into the evening.

That’s really the trick with a good work-to-drinks outfit. It shouldn’t feel like two separate wardrobes fighting with each other.

You just want clothes that are comfortable enough for the day, smart enough for later, and let you shut the laptop, pick up your bag and go.

Wear This When You’re Channelling Y2K

Plus size brunette seated at a café holding a cappuccino, wearing a black off-shoulder top, green camouflage cargo trousers, black high-top trainers and silver hoop earrings, with the six outfit products displayed on a cream panel.

This article contains affiliate links. If you purchase through one of these links, we may earn a commission at no extra cost to you.

There’s something about camouflage cargos, big silver hoops and black high-tops that brings the noughties straight back. Suddenly you’re remembering carefully curated playlists and the perfume bottle that had pride of place on your dressing table. This plus size Y2K outfit takes that familiar feeling and brings it into an ordinary afternoon: coffee with a friend, a proper catch-up and absolutely no rush to leave.

The camouflage cargo trousers set the mood. Their loose shape and earthy green print give the outfit that relaxed, slightly rebellious feel, without needing much else around them. They’re the sort of statement piece you can build a casual outfit around, rather than feeling you need to keep adding things to make it interesting.

Here, the black off-shoulder top keeps the combination simple. The neckline adds a softer detail against the cargo pockets, while the long sleeves and loose silhouette carry on the easygoing feel. You could wear it falling naturally over the waistband, as shown, rather than arranging yourself around a perfectly tucked-in top every time you sit down.

Black also works beautifully with the olive tones in the camouflage. It gives the print room to stand out and connects the top with the trainers, so the whole outfit feels considered without looking overly coordinated. Sometimes the simplest colour choice is the one that makes everything else click.

The black high-tops are a natural fit for this look. Their white laces and toe caps break up the darker colours, and that familiar canvas shape feels right at home beneath baggy cargos. This is very much a trainers-and-cappuccino outfit, with the possibility of a wander around the shops afterwards.

Then come the silver hoops. A little shine near the face is enough here; there’s already plenty happening in the trousers. They bring that recognisable Y2K touch without needing a whole collection of accessories.

The bright pink perfume bottle and silver music player finish the mood board with a proper dose of nostalgia. The perfume adds a cheerful burst of colour, while the player brings back the pleasure of having your favourite songs in one little device. A soundtrack for the journey to the café feels entirely appropriate.

What I like about this outfit is that it leaves room to enjoy the clothes. Plus size style can include a bold print, a bare shoulder and a trend you remember from the first time around. You can choose the bits you still love and wear them in a way that suits you now.

Cargos on, hoops in, coffee ordered. We’ve got plenty to catch up on.

Wear This When They Make You Go Into the Office and You Hope No One Talks to You

Plus size office outfit collage with a navy blazer, navy striped top, dark wide-leg jeans, brown loafers, gold hoop earrings, a brown backpack and a cowboy print umbrella.

This article contains affiliate links. If you purchase through one of these links, we may earn a commission at no extra cost to you.

There are working-from-home days, and then there are those deeply inconvenient days when somebody decides your physical presence is required in an actual office. Fine. We’ll go. We’ll even look reasonably put together. But this outfit comes with absolutely no guarantee that we’re available for unnecessary conversation.

The starting point is the navy striped top, which does that useful thing of looking smarter than the amount of effort required to put it on. The vertical stripe detail works beautifully with the dark colour, while the zip neckline and little pocket details give it enough interest that it doesn’t just disappear underneath everything else.

Over that goes the navy blazer.

A blazer is basically my favourite shortcut for yes, I absolutely meant to look this organised. You can throw one over a fairly simple outfit and suddenly it feels office appropriate. This one keeps the whole look tonal without becoming too formal, which is exactly what I want for an ordinary day at work rather than an interview or important meeting.

The dark wide-leg jeans are where we’re refusing to suffer for professionalism.

They’re smart enough to work with the blazer but still very definitely jeans, and that wider leg keeps the outfit relaxed. There’s something particularly useful about dark denim for these in-between outfits: it feels considerably more polished than your weekend jeans without crossing over into I’ve put proper work trousers on and now I regret my choices territory.

Then we introduce the brown.

The brown loafers are practical, flat and sensible enough for actually getting to work in, while the brown backpack carries through the same warmer colour. And, importantly, a backpack leaves your hands free for opening doors, checking your phone and generally navigating the commute while wondering why this meeting couldn’t have been an email.

A pair of simple gold hoop earrings finishes off the actual outfit. They’re one of those tiny additions that make everything look a little more considered without requiring any real effort.

And then, because this is Britain, there’s the umbrella.

Not a boring black umbrella, either.

If we’re being made to leave the house, we’re at least taking the cowboy umbrella.

It’s slightly unexpected, slightly ridiculous and considerably more interesting than the rest of the commute. Plus, there’s something rather satisfying about arriving at work looking perfectly respectable in navy and dark denim while carrying an umbrella that suggests you may have an entirely different personality outside office hours.

That’s really what I like about this plus size office outfit. Nothing is uncomfortable, nothing feels overly corporate and nothing requires you to become a completely different version of yourself just because you’ve gone into work.

You look presentable. You look prepared. You have sensible shoes, somewhere to put your laptop and protection from the rain.

You’ve fulfilled your side of the bargain.

Now all that’s left is to walk purposefully towards your desk while avoiding prolonged eye contact with absolutely everyone.

Wear This When Your Commute Is Ten Steps

Plus size working from home outfit collage with a grey loungewear set, pastel pink and lilac fluffy cardigan, pink slippers, blue light glasses, claw clips and a Hold On Let Me ChatGPT This mug.

This article contains affiliate links. If you purchase through one of these links, we may earn a commission at no extra cost to you.

Working from home has its own very specific dress code. You want to be comfortable enough to sit at your laptop all day, warm enough that you don’t start eyeing up the heating by 10am, but presentable enough that an unexpected Zoom call doesn’t cause absolute panic. This is basically my answer: loungewear, slippers and just enough evidence that you’ve made an effort.

The grey loungewear set is doing most of the heavy lifting. It’s soft and relaxed, with wide-leg trousers rather than anything tight or restrictive, so it has that properly comfortable at-home feel without looking like you’ve simply stayed in your pyjamas. Which, admittedly, is sometimes tempting.

Then there’s the fluffy pastel cardigan. This is exactly the sort of layer I want when I’m working from home because you can throw it on when you’re cold, take it off when you’re not, and somehow it makes the whole outfit look considerably more intentional. The pink and lilac stripes also stop all that grey from becoming a bit too sensible.

And obviously, we’re wearing slippers.

The pink pair add a little bit of colour and look ridiculously cosy. Nobody on Zoom needs to know what’s happening below desk level anyway, so this is one area where I see absolutely no reason to compromise.

The clever bit is what happens from the shoulders upwards.

A pair of blue light glasses and your hair twisted into a claw clip can take you from I’ve been sitting here answering emails since eight to yes, of course I remembered we had a meeting remarkably quickly. They’re tiny details, but they’re exactly what makes this work as an actual working from home outfit rather than simply a lounge set.

And then we come to the mug.

“Hold On Let Me ChatGPT This.”

Quite frankly, no notes.

This is the kind of plus size workwear I want to see more of because work doesn’t always happen in an office. Plenty of us work from kitchen tables, spare bedrooms and little desks squeezed into corners of our homes. What we wear on those days deserves to be comfortable, practical and still make us feel reasonably put together.

You don’t need tailoring. You don’t need heels. You definitely don’t need to dress as though you’re commuting into the City when your actual commute is approximately ten steps.

You just need something cosy, a decent pair of glasses, coffee within reach and an expression that says, what on earth am I reading?

Preferably while wearing excellent slippers.

River Island Plus Size: What Can You Actually Buy Up to a Size 22?

River Island plus size editorial collage featuring women in knitwear, denim, tailoring and monochrome outfits.

Plus size fashion at River Island goes further than I realised. The high-street retailer currently carries a sizeable selection of clothing up to a UK 22, including tops, dresses, knitwear, trousers, coats, jackets and jeans.

River Island probably isn’t the first name that springs to mind when you think of plus size shopping. It certainly wasn’t for me. But if you wear up to a UK 22, there is much more hiding on the website than you might expect.

The retailer now has a dedicated plus size section covering everything from everyday basics to workwear, occasion dresses and going-out pieces. You can shop tops, knitwear, trousers, jeans, coats and jackets as well as dresses, jumpsuits, skirts and more.

And this isn’t just a token handful of pieces buried at the bottom of the website. There are plenty of styles across the current range, with a useful selection available in sizes 18, 20 and 22.

So, is River Island really plus size?

This is where a little perspective is useful.

River Island currently goes up to a UK 22, so its range sits at the lower end of what we'd usually call plus size. If you need a 24, 26, 28 or above, this unfortunately isn't going to solve your wardrobe problems.

But for women around sizes 18–22 who sometimes find themselves caught between standard high-street sizing and specialist plus size retailers, it does add another place to look.

What can you buy?

Quite a lot, actually.

There are casual tops and T-shirts, cardigans and jumpers, smart trousers and tailoring, jeans, coats, dresses for everyday wear and plenty of more dressed-up options.

That makes River Island particularly interesting if your wardrobe sits somewhere between “I need something decent for work” and “I've been invited somewhere and everything I own suddenly looks wrong.”

There's currently a new-customer offer too

As an affiliate, I may earn a commission if you purchase through links on this page, at no extra cost to you.

Worth adding to your plus size shopping list?

If you're above a size 22, River Island still has a considerable way to go before it becomes genuinely useful to the wider plus size market.

But if you're an 18, 20 or 22, it's worth knowing the range exists.

There are enough styles available now that River Island is another high-street option to add to the rotation — particularly for fashion-led pieces, workwear, denim and those occasions when you want something a little smarter than your everyday wardrobe.

And I'll be keeping an eye on what appears in the range, because there are definitely a few pieces here that could make their way into future Plus Mode outfits.

Wear This When You’re Popping to M&S for Picky Bits

There is a very particular kind of outfit required for “I’m only popping to M&S for picky bits.” It needs to be comfortable enough for a quick food run, presentable enough for the inevitable chance encounter, and easy enough that it doesn’t look like you’ve spent forty minutes getting dressed to buy mini sausage rolls.

The starting point for this look is the cotton striped top. Stripes always make an everyday outfit feel a little more pulled together, and this one has that useful balance of being casual without looking scruffy. It works especially well with the black wide-leg jeans, which give the outfit a cleaner, more modern shape than a basic pair of leggings or joggers.

The wide-leg cut is doing a lot of the work here. It keeps the whole outfit comfortable and easy to move in, but still gives it enough structure to feel properly dressed. That is exactly the kind of piece I like for everyday plus size outfits: something that feels effortless but still looks intentional.

Over the top, the black bodywarmer adds another layer without making the outfit feel bulky. The quilted finish gives it a bit of texture, while the warm brown trim works beautifully with the accessories. It is also practical enough for those days when you are in and out of the car, walking across a supermarket car park, or adding “just one more shop” onto what was supposed to be a five-minute errand.

For shoes, the pale Puma sneakers keep the outfit casual and comfortable while lifting the darker colours slightly. They also stop the outfit from looking too serious, which is important when the overall brief is very much “food shop, but make it fashion.”

The ALDO striped bag pulls the whole look together. The stripe echoes the top without making everything feel too matchy, while the tan detailing ties back in with the bodywarmer. It is the kind of accessory that makes a simple outfit look more considered without needing much effort.

Then there are the Tommy Hilfiger earrings, which add a small bit of polish. They are subtle enough for daytime, but they stop the outfit from feeling too plain and give it that little finished touch.

This is one of those looks that works well beyond an M&S run too. It would be just as good for a coffee stop, lunch with a friend, a school run, weekend errands or any of those days where you want to be comfortable but still feel like you have made an effort.

And crucially, it still works when you come home carrying three dips, two cheeses, olives, mini desserts and at least one thing you absolutely did not go in for.

Wear This When You Want to Make an Entrance

Plus size evening outfit collage with a black corset-style blouse, black palazzo trousers, pointed heels, peacock clutch, earrings and black watch.

This article contains affiliate links. If you purchase through one of these links, we may earn a commission at no extra cost to you.

There’s something about an all black outfit that immediately feels pulled together, but the trick is making sure it still has personality.

The starting point here is the Scarlet Darkness black corset-style blouse. Its off the shoulder neckline, puff sleeves and fitted shape give the outfit a romantic, slightly vintage feel without tipping into costume territory. Pairing it with the Spesh black palazzo trousers keeps the silhouette softer and more relaxed, balancing the fitted top with a fluid wide leg.

The Steve Madden pointed black heels give the outfit a cleaner, sharper finish and help keep the overall look evening ready. If high heels are not your thing, the same outfit could easily work with a lower pointed heel or a sleek pointed flat.

The accessories are where the outfit gets a little more interesting.

The peacock clutch brings in a beautiful vintage inspired flash of blue and turquoise, which stands out against the black without taking over the whole look. Because the rest of the palette is so restrained, the bag can be the statement piece.

For jewellery, there are two different directions. The Thomas Sabo vintage-style statement stud earrings give the outfit a darker, more dramatic edge, while the Fossil gold drop earrings soften the look and bring in a warmer, more polished feel. Either works. It really depends on whether you want the outfit to lean more gothic romantic or classic evening glamour.

Finish with the black watch for a final understated detail.

This is the sort of outfit that works beautifully for dinner, cocktails, date night, a birthday evening or anywhere you want to feel properly dressed up without relying on a traditional dress. It makes an entrance, but still feels wearable.

Plus Size Errands Outfit for Coffee Runs, Casual Days & “Maybe the Gym”

Plus size errands outfit board with a cream hoodie, black cropped leggings, white trainers, black crossbody bag and red water bottle.

This article contains affiliate links. If you purchase through one of these links, we may earn a commission at no extra cost to you.

This look brings together the easy pieces many of us reach for when the day involves a little bit of everything. The cream hoodie keeps the palette light and relaxed, while black leggings create a simple base that is easy to coordinate. White trainers lift the darker lower half and give the outfit a fresh finish for coffee runs, errands and other casual plans.

The small crossbody bag is a practical addition when you want to keep your hands free. Its black colour connects neatly with the leggings, so the outfit still feels considered rather than thrown together. A bright red bottle adds one confident point of colour without changing the calm, neutral feel of the overall combination.

The combination works well because each piece has a clear role. The hoodie provides the relaxed focal point, the leggings keep the silhouette streamlined, and the trainers make the look feel ready for a day on the move. It is an uncomplicated formula that could also work with a longerline sweatshirt, a lightweight jacket or another neutral casual layer.

This could be a useful outfit idea for anyone who likes comfortable separates but still wants to look put together. For a different mood, the accessories could be changed while keeping the same foundation. A colourful bag would make the look brighter, while tonal black and cream accessories would keep it especially minimal. Always check the retailer listing for current product details, colour and sizing information before purchasing.

Comfy Plus Size Autumn Office Outfit That Still Looks Put Together

Plus size autumn office outfit board with a blue grey textured dress, navy tights, black knee high boots, hoop earrings and tassel bag.

This look brings together a softly structured blue grey dress with darker accessories for an office outfit that feels polished without becoming formal. The dress provides the main shape and texture, while navy tights and black knee high boots add warmth and create a practical foundation for cooler working days.

Blue grey, navy and black sit close enough together to feel calm and coordinated, but the small shifts in tone keep the outfit from looking flat. Gold hoop earrings introduce a little warmth near the face, while the tassel crossbody bag adds detail without competing with the dress. The result is understated and easy to read at a glance.

The combination works well for offices where comfort matters but a neat finish is still useful. The dress does most of the styling work, which can make busy mornings simpler. A tailored coat could make the idea feel sharper for a commute, while a soft cardigan would take it in a more relaxed direction.

This could be a useful outfit idea for work, lunch meetings or daytime events during the cooler months. It also shows how dark accessories can anchor a lighter dress without relying on an exact colour match. Before buying, check the retailer photographs, description and sizing information for the most current details.

Wear This When You Want Them Green With Envy

Plus size evening outfit board with a forest green shirt dress, black knee high boots, sunglasses and green and black clutch options.

This article contains affiliate links. If you purchase through one of these links, we may earn a commission at no extra cost to you.

This look brings together a rich forest green shirt dress and confident black accessories for an outfit designed with dinners, drinks and evening plans in mind. The dress is the clear focus, with its strong colour creating impact before any accessories are added.

Black knee high boots ground the green and give the outfit a defined finish. Sunglasses add a polished touch that works from day to evening, while the two clutch ideas show different ways to complete the palette. A green clutch keeps the look tonal, while the black option echoes the boots and creates a stronger contrast.

The combination works well because it limits the number of colours while varying shape and texture. That restraint lets the green stand out and makes the accessories feel connected. For another interpretation, a simple black outer layer could continue the same colour story during cooler weather.

This could be a useful outfit idea for anyone drawn to colour but looking for a straightforward way to style it. The central idea is easy to adapt: choose one expressive dress, then use a small group of darker accessories to frame it. Check the current retailer listing for exact product details, colour and sizing before purchasing.

Easy Plus Size Style for Casual Summer Nights

Plus size summer evening outfit board with a royal blue tiered dress, tan sandals and clutch, gold jewellery and sunglasses.

This look brings together a royal blue tiered dress with tan and gold accessories for an easy summer evening outfit. The clear blue gives the outfit presence, while the warmer accessories soften the contrast and keep the overall mood relaxed.

Flat tan sandals and a woven clutch share a natural, summery feel. Gold hoops and a layered necklace repeat that warmth on a smaller scale, drawing the different parts of the outfit together. Sunglasses complete the idea for plans that begin while the sun is still out.

The combination works well because the dress remains the only strong colour. Everything around it supports rather than competes with it. This approach can be useful when styling another colourful summer dress too: choose accessories from one warm neutral family and repeat a metal tone in the jewellery.

This could be a useful outfit idea for a casual dinner, holiday evening or relaxed gathering. A light neutral layer could be added when the temperature drops without changing the central colour balance. Always check the retailer listing for the latest product description, colour and sizing information.

What I’d Wear for a Casual Summer Day Out

Plus size casual summer outfit board with a striped tee, denim capri jeans, blue cap, navy crossbody bag, sunglasses, earrings and wedge sandals.

This article contains affiliate links. If you purchase through one of these links, we may earn a commission at no extra cost to you.

This look brings together a striped V-neck tee and denim capri jeans for a familiar casual base, then adds accessories that make it feel ready for a full summer day. The red, white and blue stripe introduces colour without making the outfit difficult to coordinate.

A blue cap and navy crossbody bag pick up the cooler tones in the clothing, helping the separates feel connected. Sunglasses and heart earrings add detail around the face, while black wedge sandals give the relaxed outfit a slightly more finished edge than a simple flat shoe might suggest visually.

The combination works well for varied daytime plans because it balances practical pieces with a few deliberate details. The crossbody shape keeps belongings close without occupying your hands, and the accessories can be removed or switched easily as the day changes.

This could be a useful outfit idea for coffee, shopping, sightseeing or an informal lunch. The same styling formula could work with plain separates too: repeat one colour through two accessories, then use jewellery or sunglasses as the finishing touch. Check the retailer listing for exact product details and current sizing information.

A Day by the Pool: Plus Size Summer Outfit & Poolside Essentials

Plus size poolside outfit board with a dark green floral swimsuit, cream crochet cover up, sun hat, sunglasses, beach bag, sunscreen, book and flip flops.

This article contains affiliate links. If you purchase through one of these links, we may earn a commission at no extra cost to you.

This look brings together dark green floral swimwear with a cream crochet cover up and a group of useful poolside accessories. The deeper green gives the outfit a clear anchor, while the light cover up adds contrast and keeps the overall palette suitable for a bright summer setting.

A woven hat and structured beach bag introduce natural texture, and simple flip flops keep the footwear relaxed. Sunglasses, sunscreen and a book round out the idea around the practical rhythm of a day by the water rather than adding decoration for its own sake.

The combination works well because the accessories share warm, neutral tones that sit comfortably beside the green swimwear. That makes the outfit feel coordinated without requiring every piece to match. The cover up also provides a light layer for moving between the pool, café and other shared areas.

This could be a useful outfit idea for a pool day, spa visit or break somewhere warm. It can be adapted around another swimsuit by keeping the same neutral accessories or choosing one colour from the swimwear to repeat elsewhere. Always check the retailer listing for current product details, colour and sizing information.
